WHAT TO WEAR:
Most important, wear what you love and are comfortable in! I want to capture you and your family as you really are. If you are comfortable , it will show in your photos.
- but this does not mean come in matching outfits or wear all the same colour. Rather, find a colour or two or even three and use different but complimentary shades or tones on everyone
- avoid clothing with big logos and large designs. They’ll be distracting to the people who want to see pictures of you
- remember to keep in mind how siblings outfits will coordinate when photographed together
{two: be different}
- do not be afraid to use patterns (but if one or two people are in patterns, the rest should be in coordinating solids)
- do be afraid to accessorize with hats, scarves, gumboots, tutu’s, flower pins, tights, belts, etc.
- if your kids want to dress themselves and wear their favourite dinosaur shirt, a fairy crown, or their jammies under their shorts…awesome!
{three: be fun}
- use bright colours
- get some fun shoes
- wear layers
- bring your bests
Feel free to bring an outfit change if you want to mix it up a bit, as well as any props that capture you or your family (a favourite toy, a beloved snuggly, a red wagon, a new bike, a patchwork picnic blanket, a guitar, a tea set for an impromptu tea party, etc.)
WHERE TO GO:
All sessions take place on-location in your home or at a location of your choice, always using natural light. Whether we find a big mud puddle to jump in, a tree to climb, a beach to play at, or an urban street to skip down…the more reflective of you the location is, the more magical the photos will be. Vancouver offers some of the most spectacular backdrops, and I love combining family stories with breathtaking beauty such as our oceans and forests, parks, gardens, wildflower meadows, train tracks and picturesque barns. If you have a location in mind, please let me know. Otherwise I’d be happy to offer some suggestions.
Newborn session are generally done in your home, unless it is warm enough to sneak outside. I recommend getting those first precious photos taken during the first 2 weeks, when you newborn is still sleepy, bendy, pink and perfect.
If we have planned your session outdoors, I prefer to shoot in the warmth of early morning or late afternoon light.
